Sam Thacker and the Nameless*

I’ve known Sam Thacker almost as long as I’ve lived in Atlanta. Michael, my boyfriend, started playing with him about two and half years ago. Sam has been introduced as the ‘nicest guy in music’ and it’s true as far as I know. It’s been great to get to know him as a friend and support his music. I got the opportunity to take some pictures for them as they are working on their new album, “Lines” (and I’m working on expanding my music portfolio).
Just to make it clear – the OFFICIAL band name is not ‘the nameless’ or ‘the skinny’. They haven’t selected one yet, so please list your suggestions in the comments. I’ll send them over to the guys.
Also, the top image is just something I made up – nothing official. The three people pictured are Sam (vocals and guitar), Michael (guitar), and Jonathan (drummer). They don’t have a full-time base player yet – so that why you won’t see one pictured. Visit Sam’s site at www.samthacker.com.
Here are some of the shots we got during the day…

I loved the sunset lighting for hours…

And finally, some seamless white shots with MORE jumping. We did a lot of jumping.

Holly Evans

As I mentioned in my last post, I got to shoot two friends – Holly and Dee Dee – last Tuesday. One of the best things about photographing two separate people at the same time, is that it keeps your brain churning, looking for the best light for each. My favorite thing about portraiture is that no two faces look the same in the same lighting – so as a photographer I have to tweak and change to suit each face shape and personality. Even when the setting is the same, both people will carry a different presence. For example, in the photo below, Holly perches perilously like a black bird in front of the red door, while Dee Dee took the same pose (see bottom of previous post) and whisked us all away to wartime in Eastern Europe…
Holly is a pianist. She needed some basic headshots for recital pamphlets and such (not pictured)… So after we got those out of the way, she was willing to play along with some ideas that I had, and – I mean this as a complement – but I wouldn’t have guessed that she’d make such a great model. Her look is so edgy and her face and perfect black dress just begged for harsh contrasty light. Here’s are some of the shots –>

Dee Dee Maillian

On Tuesday I got the honor of getting to do a photoshoot with two of my friends – Dee Dee and Holly. These girls are super great to hang out with and we a lot of fun running around town taking pictures – we made it to Oakland Cemetery, Grant Park, St. John’s Lutheran Church, and did some crunched studio set-ups at my house. I’ll post photos of Holly on another post later this week -
Dee Dee is a vocalist who sings with a variety of artists as well as singing at North Point Church here in Atlanta. Visit her blog by clicking here. She is awesome. Enjoy the photos!

New Website!
I know it seems like I just redesigned my site not too long ago, but I felt like it was necessary to make some changes so that (a) guests to the site can browse quicker with less clicks, (b) so that I can include the Liberia multimedia work I’ve been doing, and (c) so I can showcase my growing portrait portfolio. I am still taking event and architecture work, but I’ll now be focusing on portraiture. These portfolios will be growing rapidly, so keep an eye out!
I had a lot fun designing this site and learned a ton about html coding and such. I’m really happy with the horizontal scrolling, having been inspired by some of my favorite local (Troy Stains) and national photographers (Richard Phibbs).
So my friends, family, and blog readers – it’s your task to let me know if you see any errors in the site (misspelling, dysfunctional link, etc). Enjoy browsing!
