The Main Man.

Parker saying one of his favorite answers to a question above – “I don’t fink (think) so…”. Ridiculously cute.
I just got to spend a week up in Nashville with my family and help out while Amy my sister is in the hospital with Evan (finishing a third week in PICU and now a regular bed with viral pheumonia) and while my parents are at work. So I mostly got to babysit the ‘main man’ when he wasn’t in preschool – the one and only Mr. P.
Parker is a really great kid – super amicable, plays well with others, incredibly smart, and doesn’t get into too much trouble for a two year old. He’s doing great with ‘mommy’ being in the hospital with the little brother he barely knows. Honestly, I still don’t think that he understands that Evan is for keeps.
Fortunately he wanted me the change his diaper even less than I wanted to, so I slipped out by the skin of my teeth and still hold on to my 25-year never-changed-a-diaper-in-my-life streak (something I’m quite proud of and a life goal of mine.) However, there was one day when we decided to ‘go swimming’ in the mid-afternoon to divert a poopy situation…
As you all know, I’m not the hugest fan of kids in general, but that one is a winner. Uncontested.
Here he is playing with his dinosaurs. Pictured are ‘the mean one’ and ‘the scary one’. I think ‘the good one’ (a pink brontosaurus) is still recovering from running around the house with Parker…
And finally, one blooper/outtake/this-is-how-he-looks-most-of-the-time shot:

Evan

Not too long ago I posted about my new nephew – Evan David Martin. The poor little guy did pretty good for the first two weeks or so of life and then caught viral pneumonia. :(
He’s been in the Pediatric ICU for almost three weeks now and finally seems to be getting better. He’s been moved to a regular room in the last few days and the doctors hope that he might get discharged sometime next week. He’s still plugged up to oxygen and a feeding tube and a bunch of other wires and such to monitor everything. He seems to be out of the woods though! (Sorry for the rough picture – I took it with my computer camera…)
I’ve spent the week up here hanging out with her other son Parker – who has been dealing really well with Amy being gone to the hospital all the time. Thanks for the continued prayers!
Holly Evans

As I mentioned in my last post, I got to shoot two friends – Holly and Dee Dee – last Tuesday. One of the best things about photographing two separate people at the same time, is that it keeps your brain churning, looking for the best light for each. My favorite thing about portraiture is that no two faces look the same in the same lighting – so as a photographer I have to tweak and change to suit each face shape and personality. Even when the setting is the same, both people will carry a different presence. For example, in the photo below, Holly perches perilously like a black bird in front of the red door, while Dee Dee took the same pose (see bottom of previous post) and whisked us all away to wartime in Eastern Europe…
Holly is a pianist. She needed some basic headshots for recital pamphlets and such (not pictured)… So after we got those out of the way, she was willing to play along with some ideas that I had, and – I mean this as a complement – but I wouldn’t have guessed that she’d make such a great model. Her look is so edgy and her face and perfect black dress just begged for harsh contrasty light. Here’s are some of the shots –>
